We provide free speech therapy to CLP children on a regular basis, as well as psychological support through individualized therapies for the children and their parents or extended families.

We offer counseling for all parents. We offer emotional and psychological support with education regarding CLP through our Early Stimulation Program for the parents of CLP babies.

Our therapists receive continuous training throughout the year to improve the quality of the language therapies we offer. We bring dental, medical, and psychological professionals to offer parents and families knowledge on how to care for their CLP children.

We pay the materials cost to a certified volunteer orthodontist for the obturator that babies may need to swallow correctly (and which the parents can’t afford).

We refer or pay to other medical or dental professionals for children to receive the attention they need due to their condition, or to specialized foundations, like our partner "Smile Train”, for children to be part of their CLP surgical programs.

We assist with transportation if needed and refer children who need surgeries to pro bono Surgical Foundations in Mexico.
Facts About Cleft Lip and Cleft Palate Children
- Children may need as many as 7 major surgeries in their life-time.
- Many are malnourished and may die due to not being able to swallow properly.
- Some babies will have to be fed through an IV to survive.
- For many a simple obturator that some parents can’t afford can assist by sealing the palate for better suction.
- It also raises the palate and the nostril on the side of the cleft for better surgical results and thus better speech.
- Beyond the child’s physical suffering, the parents and families struggle through this challenging ordeal for many years.
- CLP parents who do not speak clearly, are more likely yo choose partners who also have CLP therefore increasing the genetic chances for more cleft palate births.
- CLP parents who speak clearly, are more likely to choose partners who do not have CLP therefore decreasing the genetic chances for more cleft palate births.
